Key Highlights

  • An early injury for Chelsea saw Loftus-Cheek replace
  • Not real cutting edge from either side in the first 20-minutes, but Newcastle had the better chances
  • A first half dominate by Newcastle, but one that ended 0-0
  • Lovely start to the second half as both Longstaff and Wood have chances saved
  • Another lull shortly after, as Chelsea try to slow the game down
  • A goal of pure beauty from Willock after a fantastic run from Almiron sets him up
  • Chelsea applied pressure late on, but Newcastle continued to deal with it. Chelsea piled on the players in attack with just 10-minutes to go
  • Try as they might, Chelsea couldn't do anything to stop Newcastle late on as Howe and the boys locked them out

Player Ratings

Nick Pope - 7

Not much for Pope to do once again. But, once again, when he was needed he did what was required of him

Kieran Trippier - 8

Another outstanding game from Trippier, who was both a trooper in attack and defence

Fabian Schär - 8

Another quality CB game from Schar, who will be going into the WC in incredible form for Newcastle

Sven Botman - 9

A fantastic game for Botman, who put his body on the line throughout the match. Off late on with a knock, he gave everything while he was on the pitch

Dan Burn - 8

Still filling in at left back, Burn had no trouble dealing with the Chelsea attack

Joe Willock - 9

A stunning goal from Willock after he got on the end of a lovely run from Almiron. Subbed off late on for Maxi as he capped off a second goal in two games

Bruno Guimarães - 8

Another classy performance from Bruno. While he had a few sloppy moments, his passing range was superb as he opened Chelsea up

Sean Longstaff - 7

A good performance from Sean, who still looked like he wanted an extra touch. However, he was defensively sound once again, and probably should have got himself a goal

Miguel Almirón - 8

Another great performance from Miggy, who's great run lead to the goal for Willock

Joelinton - 8

A peak Joelinton performance in the midfield, today. Playing both centrally and on the left wing, Joelinton was the complete player today

Chris Wood - 7

Certainly not the type of game Wood will excel at, but he did the job that was asked of him
