Newcastle United's long-protracted pursuit of German centre-back Malick Thiaw shows no signs of an immediate resolution.

By now it is well established that Newcastle are playing funny buggers over the price for Thiaw with their valuation way below what AC Milan are demanding. A standard play by this new-look Newcastle United.

In fairness to them, they do generally get what they want, it's just hugely frustrating as fans to see the club dragging out transfer deals for so long.

Thankfully there does seem to still be a lot of confidence that Malick Thiaw will be a Newcastle player next season, but first the clubs need to agree a fee and Milan need to ensure they have their replacement ready to go.

Milan are trying to sign Aleksandar Pavlovic

Milan are working on a deal to sign Aleksandar Pavlovic from Bayern Munich and once that deal is concluded, that will open the door for Thiaw to exit.

According to Newcastle-hating journalist Alessandro Schiavone on X, Thiaw has been in touch with his former Milan teammate Sandro Tonali to ask about life in England and working under Eddie Howe.

Schiavone has said that Thiaw is excited about the prospect of moving to Newcastle.

Everything is moving but at a glacial pace

So everything is moving in the right direction by the sounds of things, it's just moving painfully slow.

Hopefully, once Milan get that deal for Pavlovic wrapped up we'll start seeing some serious movement on Malick Thiaw.

Then, fingers crossed, the snowball effect will begin and we'll soon see a right-winger and a centre-forward follow him through the door.
