Newcastle United target Marc Guehi captained Crystal Palace on Sunday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Brentford.
It always seemed likely that Guehi would be in the starting XI for Crystal Palace after the way things had unfolded in the week leading up to the season opener.
Newcastle and Crystal Palace remain in talks for the 24-year-old England star but the London club are digging their heels in over their valuation of the player while Newcastle are skirting around the issue by offering up different add-ons to get the deal done.
Marc Guehi has come in for some criticism for his performance on Sunday and now, We Are Palace have taken note of his behaviour at full time.
The Palace site noted that Guehi stood apart from the rest of the team to applaud the fans after their defeat.
It could be entirely innocent and just a coincidence that he happened to be stood in front of the rest of the team, or even a conscious choice as captain, however, there are those who believe it was a subtle farewell to the Palace fans.
With everything still so up in the air, we feel it would have been a bit crazy for Guehi to make any kind of noticeable gesture to the Palace fans, so it's likely just a coincidence.
We are still waiting for the big breakthrough, whether it be the confirmation of a bid being accepted or something from either club that definitively says the deal is off.
Now that we're at the point of trying to identify tells in body language, we know things have gone too far.
Just get the deal done or walk away and move on to someone else.
