It just wouldn't be a Newcastle United summer without a transfer saga dragging on way longer than it should.

This year Marc Guehi is the prize for our patience as Crystal Palace are determined to get what they deem to be a fair price for the England centre-back.

Meanwhile, Newcastle, not ones to pay full price for anything, have set their stall out £5 million short of the Palace valuation and the stand-off ensues.

Despite Steve Parish speaking very publicly about the deal, nobody outside of the two clubs really knows what the current state of play is.

Luke Edwards has a gut feeling about the deal

So now the question remains: Will Newcastle United sign Marc Guehi this summer? The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has spoken to Radio 5 Live to say that he believes the deal will be done.

"My gut feeling is that it will get done, that Newcastle will get to an asking price and I think that would be an excellent, excellent signing for Newcastle.

"It will be a big coup for Newcastle if they can get it done. Until it's done it's not done, of course. It's gone on for a week now, I think I wrote in the Telegraph a week ago that it was close only to be shown up by three rejected bids."

It's still 50/50 as to whether the deal will happen

This will come as a huge worry for Newcastle fans given Luke Edwards' hit rate of getting things right - our confidence has certainly dipped after hearing this.

In all seriousness, it still feels very much like it could go either way, but it looks absolutely certain that the deal will not be done before the weekend and that Guehi will start the season as a Crystal Palace player.

We've got our fingers crossed that it all works out favourably for Newcastle. We know plenty of fans want us to move on, and we understand that completely, but we're invested now and we really want this to happen.
