The Premier League season is coming to an end but there will be plenty of international football to keep us ticking over across the summer.

The European Championships take place in the northern hemisphere which will no doubt keep our interest piqued for a while, especially if Newcastle United players or indeed transfer targets are involved.

Meanwhile, below the equator, the Copa America will be taking place in which Brazil will be hot favourites.

Newcastle will have some representation in that competition too, although not as much as we'd have liked.

Joelinton misses out on representing his country at a major tournament

Dorival Junior has selected his Brazil squad for the tournament and while Bruno Guimaraes has got his place for the tournament, Joelinton has unfortunately missed out.

Joelinton was just called up to Brazil for the first time last year under Ramon Menezes but it seems Dorival Junior has his own ideas.

We'd like to believe it was more down to Joelinton's injury troubles this year. After having had surgery on his groin, Joelinton has only just returned to first-team action and only has 20 minutes of game time under his belt.

It's down to Bruno to bring back a winner's medal

It's devastating for Joelinton, though, having worked so hard, proved so many people wrong and finally getting his call-up to represent his country only to miss out on his first major tournament.

We'll be keeping an eye out to see how Bruno is getting along, but we'd definitely have felt a bit more invested had both our Brazilians been involved.

Let's hope Gareth Southgate doesn't cause similar disappointment when naming his England team by leaving out Anthony Gordon.
