A deflated Eddie Howe faced the media after the disappointing loss to Borussia Dortmund last night.
It was an awful night at St. James' Park, in terms of weather, injuries, performance, and result. Nobody would have blamed Eddie Howe for sending Jason Tindall out to face the media for once after everything that went wrong.
However, Eddie, as always showed his class and faced the press with as much of a smile as he could muster and remained calm throughout.
This is of course Howe's first foray into the Champions League and now that he's faced each side in the group, he will have a better idea of how things are. One question he was asked was what he'd learned after three games about his side and about the group.
“Probably from tonight, that we have to be at our best to win and I think if you dip below that I think it’s tough to get results at this level.”
Newcastle have now won one, drawn one, and lost one in the Champions League. We've sampled it all.
The draw against AC Milan was seen as a good result at the time but since then we went on to hammer Paris Saint-Germain, a result which suggested that this side is capable of so much more in Europe.
Last night was a bump in the road. A pretty big bump, but a bump nonetheless.
There's no reason we can't go to Germany in two weeks and exact our revenge. They were there for the taking last night and we absolutely should not fear them.
The same goes for PSG away and we definitely fancy the lads to get something against Milan at home.
We'll chalk this one up to a lesson for Eddie Howe to learn from and we'll be back better than ever in two weeks... provided no more of our players succumb to freak injuries.
