Injury updates ahead of Fulham, club prepare for January transfer window, Howe courted by England

Tuesday's recap

Injury update

  • The good news first, as there's a fair bit of bad news...
  • Wilson & Bruno will be fine for Fulham
  • ASM could make the bench as he recovers from his knock
  • Anderson trained with the squad today, and Shelvey is making great progress. Though he is not training with the squad yet
  • Isak will be out this weekend at the very least
  • Wood is expecting to have a scan on his rib this week, so will also miss out
  • Ritchie is also out having picked up a calf injury in training last week

England tracking Howe

  • "i" understands that England are looking towards Eddie Howe as a replacement for Southgate were he to leave post-WC
  • With Potter now joining Chelsea, it seems like the FA are firmly set on Howe
  • Newcastle, however, are looking to keep Howe at the club for the long-term
  • He recently signed a new contract, but it goes well beyond that
  • Howe has been tasked with helping the club build the infrastructure it needs to become a Champions League contender
  • "i" states that Howe can, in effect, influence every aspect of the club if he chooses
  • Howe also does not have a release clause in his contract. Howe himself sells players on his “all in” approach to Newcastle United going forward

Transfer updates

  • With just 8 weeks until the WC starts, clubs are already looking towards the January window. So here's the latest from club sources
  • NUFC and Everton are in the race for Nicolas Jackson of Villarreal. He has a £30m release clause and has impressed thus far this season
  • Club will go back in for Maddison in January, with the Leicester man having just 18-months left on his contract and no sign of him signing a new deal at the club
  • NUFC will join Leeds, Juve, and Dortmund for a £31m deal for Pulisic in January
  • Toon are tracking top Brazilian talent Andrey Santos. Deal not done, but NUFC pushing
  • Keith Downie also confirms the club are trying to seal a deal for Australian wonderkid Garang Kuol. His work permit remains an issue, however, his recent appearance for the Aussie national team will certainly help
