Newcastle United centre-back Fabian Schar has hinted that he wants to extend his current deal at the club.

It doesn't seem like five minutes ago that Fabian Schar signed a new deal with Newcastle after becoming a regular starter under Eddie Howe, but that deal will expire in the summer.

Now the 31-year-old has hinted that he'd be happy to commit his future to the club beyond his current deal.

Schar, a £3million signing back in 2018 has had his ups and downs at Newcastle and at one point his career on Tyneside looked to be done as he was constantly overlooked by Steve Bruce - another one to add to the list of players almost ruined by the former Manchester United defender.

Since Eddie Howe took the throne, Schar has been a near ever-present in that back line. Last season his partnership with Sven Botman was the stuff of legend as Newcastle went on to have the joint best defence in the league alongside the champions Manchester City.

This season he has been involved in every Premier League and Champions League game for Newcastle and despite being the wrong side of 30 and picking up approximately 6000 head injuries per minute, he's still going strong.

Now, Schar has been speaking to Blick (via NewcastleWorld) while on international duty and has spoken about his future.

“Newcastle is my second home. Team, coach, club – I feel very comfortable. I really enjoy it and I hope that this journey continues.”

Newcastle seem to be on a bit of a mission tying up contracts at the moment so hopefully Schar is on the list for an extension as he's absolutely earned it.
