Sean Longstaff spoke to the assembled media this afternoon ahead of tomorrow's Champions League game with Borussia Dortmund and, as always, gave a great account of himself.

The German giants are in Toon for the third game of Champions League Group F at St. James' Park tomorrow night and are clearly enjoying the city judging by their recent post on X:

Meanwhile, Sean Longstaff spoke to the press and has revealed who he leans on for support when it comes to big games like this.

Longstaff tends to turn to Kieran Trippier for support

He also discussed his excitement at playing in the competition he watched as a kid (quotes courtesy of The Chronicle).

"I'm not sure how we top recent performances! It's a competition I've watched since I was a kid. Trying to take it in my stride.

I've got Trippier by my side and he's helping me get through it."

Kieran Trippier will no doubt be the player many turn to as he's got bags of Champions League experience whereas a huge chunk of the team, and the vast majority of the coaching staff, are participating for the first time.

The midfielder is in fine goal-scoring form at the moment

Longstaff goes into this game off the back of another goal-scoring outing at the weekend when he scored Newcastle's third in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

That goal marks the first time 'Longy' has scored more than one Premier League goal in a season and to do so so early in the campaign, you'd expect there'll be plenty more. He's already netted in the Champions League too, in that breathless 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Whatever Trippier is saying to him is definitely working!
