Elliot Anderson was just starting to really find his feet in the Newcastle United first team when a back injury put him out of action.
The young midfielder, nicknamed Geordie Maradona has made just 12 appearances this season before succumbing to his injury, he managed one assist in those games.
This came off the back of an impressive pre-season where Anderson was scoring and assisting for fun. It was shaping up to be his season, we were finally going to see the best of our brightest academy star.
But like almost everything else Newcastle-related, it just wasn't meant to be this season. Now the 21-year-old not only has to fight his way back into the starting lineup when he makes his recovery, but he has to do so at the expense of the new golden child, Lewis Miley.
With all of the injuries and Sandro Tonali's suspension, it'll not take long for Anderson to be reinstated to the match-day squad when he does return from injury, whenever that may be.
There's a strong feeling that it will be sooner rather than later, especially given his latest Instagram reel which shows him carrying goalposts with the caption of "Final few steps".
An injury update in The Chronicle this morning made mention of Anderson, but had him down as one still on the long-term absentee list along with Joelinton and Joe Willock.
Joelinton isn't expected to play again this season, but Willock and Anderson are expected to be back in a few weeks.
Things are starting to look a lot brighter for Newcastle in regard to injuries with more of a two-out-one-in policy operating in the treatment room these days.
