Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales has spoken out for the first time in an age, ending the run of silence from the club this summer.
While the club has released various updates via the official website, it has been a while since a senior official from the club actually sat down and spoke about how things are going.
Given all the changes that have happened in the last couple of months, that silence was becoming deafening.
Thankfully, we now have something to go on as Newcastle prepare for the new season after Darren Eales has sat down with the media to face questions.
Of course, the biggest issue right now is that of the future of Eddie Howe.
After Gareth Southgate announced he was stepping down as England manager, attention immediately turned to the Newcastle gaffer who has long been a favourite of The FA, but Darren Eales has acted quickly to issue a hands-off warning (h/t The Chronicle).
"It is speculation on Eddie. He has been an amazing manager at the club and he is committed to Newcastle with the work that he has done.
"We are obviously committed to him and had a multi-year extension last summer signed. We are on an exciting journey and as far as we are concerned Eddie is the man to lead us on that journey. From our perspective, there is nothing to add."
As we said earlier, however, a statement from the club and even Eddie Howe himself wouldn't be enough to stop the speculation train in its tracks, only the appointment of a new boss will do that.
For now, we just have to be happy that the club have acknowledged it and given their side of things and that Newcastle United remain committed to Eddie Howe's vision for the club.
Hopefully, Howe feels the same way; We suspect he does. Imagine how bored Eddie Howe would be as an international manager. He's not ready for that yet.
