Newcastle United today posted a video of a quick interview with Anthony Gordon ahead of his return to action tomorrow.

It's coming up on a year since Newcastle forked out £45million for Everton forward Anthony Gordon to, let's be honest, a mixed reaction amongst fans.

The England U21 International arrived in the January transfer window last season and really struggled to get up to speed with the way Eddie Howe had the team training and playing. It was something that shocked Gordon and made him determined to put right in the summer. And boy did he?!

Gordon has been arguably Newcastle's best player this season

Gordon's determination to get himself fitter and better saw him pick up the Player of the Tournament at the Under 21s European Championships which England won in no small part to his superb form.

He then returned to Newcastle early to get back into training to make sure he was ready for the season. All that hard work has paid off massively as Gordon has been arguably Newcastle's best player this season.

In the interview with NUFC TV on their YouTube channel, Gordon was asked what it was like working under Eddie Howe and he couldn't help but gush.

Gordon credits Eddie Howe for his huge upturn in form

“I love it. I’m loving playing football at the minute and the gaffer’s a big part of that. I’ve had a lot of success because of him and he’s implemented a lot of things in my game which are continually improving but from where they were when I joined, I’ve got so much better.”

Howe is a magician at finding what players are naturally good at and helping them develop that side of their game. Joelinton is the absolute shining beacon of that. Taking him from laughing stock of a striker to one of the most feared and respected midfielders in the Premier League.

The one thing Gordon needs to work on now is his discipline after the pacey winger has just served a one-match suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards, although a couple that he picked up were perhaps harsh.

If he irons out that side of his game then there really is no excuse for Gareth Southgate to not be selecting him for England.
