Newcastle United's sporting director Dan Ashworth has spoken to the media recently where he was asked about Eddie Howe's future.

Dan Ashworth has been speaking to the media recently to give an update on Newcastle United and the club's ambitions for the future.

Speaking to the gathered media, (via Yahoo! Sports), Ashworth has reiterated the club's desire to be constant fixtures in the Premier League top six and therefore the Champions League, claiming the club has to get to a place where they are not just a top six club on the pitch but also off it.

Ashworth says Newcastle have a long way to catch up to the 'big six' in financial terms

The former Brighton and England director is aware that there will be bumps along the way and that Newcastle are essentially playing catch up as the top clubs have been global brands for years and we're just beginning that journey.

Eddie Howe: Going nowhere!

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe seems to be consistently named as the perfect successor to Gareth Southgate should the England manager step down from the role after Euro 2024, and despite noises from the club flat-out rubbishing those claims, fans are still nervous.

When Ashworth was asked about the possibility of Howe taking over the England job, he gave quite an assuring answer.

“I’m sure if Gareth wins the Euros the job won’t be available.

“All I can say is, Eddie has got a brilliant relationship across the club with staff, board and supporters - he’s doing a wonderful job in a really good place. Long may it continue.”

We don't think Howe will turn his back on this project yet. He's still young and will have plenty of opportunities to lead England, but he's got so much to prove at Newcastle right now that he'd be mad to walk away.
